companies without a strategic plan. Most business
owners agree it is sound business sense to have
strategic plan. Why do so few businesses have one?
My experience uncovers two primary reasons - lack of
true belief that a strategic plan will help their business

VERCOR is proud to announce a new partnership with Ron Lasko and Ted Gardiner in Cleveland and John Meyering in Grand Rapids. The move brings the total number of VERCOR offices to 13 worldwide. Ron Lasko and Ted Gardiner stand at the helm of the Cleveland office as Managing Directors. Lasko has been involved in all aspects of the mergers and acquisitions business, as managing partner of a successful law practice, Lasko & Associates Co., L.P.A., and in consulting for a variety of completed M&A transactions. Gardiner boasts over 25 years of mergers and acquisitions experience. He is a former attorney with Jones Day and the U.S. Department of Justice. "We are confident that our collective efforts will enhance our services to the benefit of our clients," states Lasko. John Meyering leads the efforts in the Grand Rapids office. After growing his family's privately owned truck rental and leasing company into the nation's largest independently owned truck-leasing company, Meyering was deeply involved in its sale to a Fortune 500 company. He has since completed over 40 business transactions in a variety of industries. "I am excited about my partnership with VERCOR. Their global resources and national footprint provide our middle market clients the same services offered by much larger investment banking firms that only work on transactions exceeding $100 million," says Meyering. VERCOR recently held its biannual, two-day
conference August 16-17. Held in San Francisco, CA,
the conference featured presentations from industry
leaders such as Deborah M. Sewell (Hub International
Pennsylvania, LLC), Jillian Alexander (Conduit
Consulting, LLC), Douglas Diggs and Cliff
McFarland (LITMUS Consulting, LLC) and Patrick S.
Jolliffe & Eric Barden (Jolliffe Capital).
Presenters spoke on everything from cross border
financing to enhancing transaction value. "This
conference provides a forum for VERCOR's Managing
Directors to strengthen relationships and share
knowledge about deals and deal-making with each
other as well as external experts," states Jillian
Alexander, a presenter. The event also provided
VERCOR offices the opportunity to network with each
other, discuss professional development initiatives
and share ideas to the benefit of their clients.
