Choose Your Team Wisely

Many of you know I am about to release my third book, Selling Your Business The Easy Way. It is a reflection of the importance of teamwork and delegation. We all need an able team of advisors. Whether they are administrative gurus, financial or business development whizzes, marketing mavens or business advisors - along the way, we must seek the counsel of someone who complements our skillset to get to where we need to be.

I talk about the dangers of the do-it-yourself mentality in this book. When we are stingy with the items on our to-do list, our projects suffer. We do too. When I speak with my clients, I urge them to increase their
business' value by sticking to what they do best - running their businesses. Leave other matters, like orchestrating a company's sale, to professionals who have dedicated their career to that profession.

Distributive vs Integrative Negotiations

The dictionary defines the word "negotiation" as mutual discussion and arrangement of terms of a transaction or agreement. Negotiations are inherent to life. They begin soon after birth and continue throughout life.

Negotiations are the platform we use to move shared and dissimilar interests to mutually satisfactory conclusions.

In the business world, negotiations obviously play an important role. They assist enterprises to accomplish day-to-day business tasks including resolving conflicts, forming associations, taking loans, making sales, purchasing materials, and an endless list of other ongoing issues which need agreements.

Though negotiations occur in different ways, the desired outcome can drive the negotiation strategy. Two more frequently used approaches to negotiating issues are distributive and integrative negotiations.
